Projects: Earl Boyles Park Improvements

Overview

Earl Boyles Park is a 7.85-acre active recreation park near the corner of SE 112th and Boise Street, next to Earl Boyles Elementary School. In 2005, PDC provided urban renewal funds to help improve this popular neighborhood greenspace. Improvements were completed in July 2007 and included:

• Curbs and sidewalks
• Pathways
• Park lighting
• Play area
• Water spray feature
• Landscaping
• Irrigation
• Picnic tables
• Benches
• Restroom enclosure

Young neighbors enjoy the new water feature and play area at Earl Boyles Park on July 9, 2007, at the park’s ribbon-cutting celebration. The central water-play area, operated by a push button, came just in time for 100-degree weather.

Relationship to the URA Plan

Improving Earl Boyles Park is consistent with the Parks, Recreation and Open Space goals and objectives found in the Lents Town Center URA Plan. Plan objectives call for the development and/or improvement of parks and open-space facilities to increase neighborhood livability. Such facilities should be within walking and biking distance of area neighborhoods. Earl Boyles Park meets both criteria, providing an attractive destination for recreation and respite in the heart of a busy residential neighborhood.
