Lents Town Center Redevelopment:
Assurety Northwest

Overview

The first new office development in Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Area, in southeast Portland broke ground in December 2006. Assurety Northwest (NW), a full-service insurance and financial services company is under contract to purchase a 77,000 square foot property, owned by PDC, along SE Foster Road between SE 88th and SE 91st Avenues. 

Assurety NW plans to redevelop the 1.8 acre property as a 30,000 square foot commercial, mixed-use project which will serve as the Assurety NW new corporate headquarters. Assurety NW expects to employ approximately 45 persons at their new headquarters when it is operational in late 2007. The Assurety NW project will also include additional office and retail space which will be available for lease. The project will be developed in two phases with Phase I consisting of Assurety NW offices and ground floor retail/ commercial space.

Phase II of the project is programmed to include a second building with construction scheduled to begin in 2009.

The Foster Road properties were acquired and assembled by PDC to create a key opportunity site for redevelopment. The Assurety NW project represents the first major, new commercial project in the Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Area since it was established in 1998.

Relationship to the URA Plan

The project supports core goals of the Lents Town Center Urban Renewal Plan, which includes the “Revitalization of Commercial Areas” through the investment of public funds and working in partnership with commercial property owners to increase the vitality and economic health of commercial areas. The proposed project also supports the economic development goals in the urban renewal plan, by creating new business investment and job creation.
