Interstate Corridor: Transportation Strategy Update

During the seven and a half years since the inception of the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area, several important transportation projects have been completed or are being undertaken by Portland Development Commission (PDC) staff, with the support of the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Advisory Committee (ICURAC), including:

• Killingsworth Street Improvements - Interstate to Commercial (Fall 2008)
• Russell Streetscape Improvements (Fall 2008)
• Denver Avenue Streetscape (2010)

Over the next year, PDC and the ICURAC will discuss the remaining 14 years of the urban renewal area and the priority projects and activities that could be implemented with urban renewal funds (also known as Tax Increment Financing or TIF). An important part of that discussion will be to identify the key transportation projects for funding.

To support this conversation, the PDC and the Portland Office of Transportation (PDOT) has begun a project to update the transportation implementation strategies that support and further the goals and objectives of the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area. This update will identify completed and on-going projects and identify future needs in the URA to create an improved process for the prioritization future transportation and parks projects.
