Interstate Corridor:
Patton Square Park Project
PDC Project Manager |

Patton Square Park is not large but holds an important place as one of the few green spaces along the Interstate Light Rail MAX line and in the center of redevelopment in the Killingsworth Station Area. Buttressed on the south by the new Patton Park Apartments (opening in January 2009) and on the north by the mixed-use Killingsworth Station Project (breaking ground this summer), the Max Station, Trillium Charter School and the historic Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, its improvement has long been a community priority. Patton previously was severely dilapidated with few amenities and often a center of undesirable activity.
The renovated park offers:
- New amenities including a community plaza, benches, tables, pathways and plantings to attract greater park usage;
- Improved sightlines and visibility including broad entryways and better signage to deter unwelcome park behavior;
- A new playground to accommodate the growing number of families with young children nearby;
- An improved physical and visual link to the IFCC next door with an entry plaza and informal performance space to enhance the synergy between Patton and the arts center.
All of the development has been carefully planned to respect the park’s many beautiful, mature trees including a 100+ year-old Northern Red Oak Heritage Tree.
