MLK Jr. Blvd. Street Improvements

Seven million dollars has been invested into street improvements identified in the 1997 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Transportation Project. The plan was prepared to help businesses and citizens "Imagine a Great Street," to improve the image and function of MLK Jr. Blvd., to support adjacent neighborhoods and businesses, and to promote job creation and revitalization goals. Improvements in the approximate area between NE Broadway Street and NE Lombard Street include restoration of on-street parking, replacement of the existing median, enhanced transit stops, improved pedestrian crossings, landscaping, lighting and other significant street and streetscape improvements.

Phase IV street improvements

Left: Phase IV construction completed in November 2006 included resurfacing of roads and replacement of sidewalks and street trees from NE Alberta to NE Killingsworth. Right: Paving patterns were designed to differentiate the multiple neighborhoods that touch Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
