Downtown Waterfront
URA Goals
- Develop Waterfront Park between the Marquam and Steel bridges as a major public open space and provide pedestrian connections to downtown.
- Support development of a high-density retail/office core by providing transit and pedestrian facilities, convenient short-term parking, and open spaces, including a public square, thereby reducing traffic congestion.
- Maintain existing low-income housing and promote additional new housing serving mixed income groups. Promote preservation and enhancement of historic buildings and districts.
- Help ensure sufficient transportation facilities, including transit and street improvements, to maintain the Area's accessibility to the region and its ability to accommodate growth.
- Stimulate private conservation, rehabilitation and development both within and adjacent to the Area.
- Eliminate blighted and deteriorated structures not suitable for rehabilitation.
- Establish redevelopment programs for the South Waterfront, Pioneer Square, Morrison Street, and Union Station project activity areas.
