Sustainable
Industries Panel

The
Sustainable Industries Panel's task
was to review an Industry Report prepared by the consultant assisting
with the Economic Development Strategy. This review will include
an assessment of:
-
the
industry description;
-
the
issues, challenges and opportunities facing the industry;
-
and
recommended strategies to address those challenges and opportunities.
The
panel was asked to review their Draft Industry Report to:
-
Determine
if there are gaps and/or missing elements in any of the areas
listed above;
-
Provide
input on priorities and tradeoffs among the strategies recommended,
recommend additional or alternative strategies, and identify the
constraints to successful implementation;
-
Evaluate
the cost of various strategies and suggest appropriate roles or
collaborations among organizations.
Industry
definition:
Service industries that assist other firms to institute systems
and processes that are more sustainable; manufacturing industries
whose products, in their operation or application reduce energy
or other resource use. This would include:
Manufacture of air conditioning systems, fans and blowers, heat
pumps, compressors, and condensers, steam, gas and wind powered
turbines, integrated circuits and solar cells, electrical transformers,
storage batteries, relays and switches. Recycled materials wholesalers.
Architectural, engineering and environmental consulting services.
Environmental, electronic, chemical and biological R&D services.
Waste collection, treatment and disposal services.
