Erin Flynn elected chair of Portland-Vancouver Regional Partners Council
Erin Flynn, director of the Urban Development Department at the Portland Development Commission, has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Portland-Vancouver Regional Partners Council for Economic Development. Flynn is joined on the Partners’ executive board by vice-chair Sandra McDonough of the Portland Business Alliance and secretary-treasurer Andrew McGough of Worksystems Inc. Elections took place on September 17, 2009.
Regional Partners, made up of public and private economic development professionals, recently announced its consolidation with the Portland Vancouver Economic Development District. The new organization provides member services and is positioned to access federal dollars through both Economic Development Administration (EDA) planning grant dollars and EDA dollars for large projects. The 30-member group includes four counties, 16 cities, and business associations, as well as state and local economic development agencies.
Since arriving at PDC in 2007, Flynn has led a major reorganization of the agency designed to refocus PDC’s core projects and programs on economic development and job creation. She also led the development and delivery of the City of Portland Five-Year Economic Development Strategy, an ambitious plan to create 10,000 new jobs in the Portland area which was adopted by Portland City Council in July 2009.
###
PDC was created by Portland voters in 1958 to serve as the city’s urban renewal agency as laid out in Chapter 15 of the City’s Charter. PDC provides comprehensive housing, development and economic development programs within the Portland region.
