PDC Commission Approves Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd Action Plan

At the June 11 Commission meeting the PDC board unanimously approved a resolution updating the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Updated Action Plan, which was originally presented to the Board of Commissioners on April 9, 2008. The Plan is designed to bring community partners together around a central set of ideas and concepts that will enhance, beautify and revitalize Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. This action will support the development of healthy neighborhoods, provide access to quality housing, help business to create and sustain quality jobs and help contribute to a strong regional economy.

Several large parcels of real estate have also either been razed, remodeled or have undergone significant environmental remediation. The Plan focuses on development projects that bring together the most critical urban planning and economic development components to the boulevard.

Some key developments have been:
* re-introduction of on-street parking
* widened pedestrian sidewalks
* street trees and other native plants
* various business storefront improvements

The Updated Action Plan lays out an overarching goal, six strategies, and 35 distinct action items to further revitalization and wealth creation in the area to benefit existing residents and stakeholders. The goal of the Action Plan is to bring resources and tools to community members and businesses that have not utilized them in the past.
