Public Meeting On North Interstate Corridor Plan

The Portland Development Commission (PDC) and Portland Bureau of Planning will hold a public meeting to present the North Interstate Corridor Plan. The meeting is Thursday, April 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kaiser Town Hall, 3704 N. Interstate Ave. The plan combines input received from the public over the past year and staff recommendations. Included in the plan is information on the recommended zoning designations, specific regulations to address neighborhood concerns and design review guidelines to shape new development along Interstate Avenue.

“This meeting will allow the public to review and discuss the plan with project staff,” said PDC Senior Project Coordinator Kevin Cronin. “This is a real opportunity to talk about specific plan elements, but we will also discuss when and how members of the public can provide comment and testimony on the overall plan.”

In addition to the open house, an electronic version of the North Interstate Corridor Plan is posted on the project website: www.portland.com/planning. Hard copies are also available at the following locations:

Next Steps

The public will have two opportunities to provide testimony on the plan. The first is at the Tuesday, April 22 Planning Commission meeting, which starts at 7:00 p.m. The second opportunity is at the Design Commission’s public hearing, Thursday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at 1900 SW 4th Avenue, 2nd floor.

Project History

The purpose of the plan is to change the zoning around five station areas from Overlook Park Station to Lombard Station, including portions of the Kenton Neighborhood consistent with the existing policy in the Albina Community Plan. The study area is located within the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area, which was established in 2000. The proposed zoning changes are to ensure that new development is consistent with the city's transit supportive policies and the community’s vision.

The Interstate Light Rail Corridor Zoning project is sponsored by PDC and managed by the Bureau of Planning.
