Third Open House Scheduled For Interstate Corridor Zoning Project
A public open house is scheduled for the Interstate Light Rail Corridor Zoning Project on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The open house will be held at Kaiser Town Hall, 3704 N. Interstate Ave., which is located on the MAX Yellow line at the Overlook Park Station.
The project’s purpose is to review and change the zoning around five station areas from Overlook Park Station to Lombard Station, including portions of the Kenton Neighborhood. The study area is located within the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area which was established in 2000. At the open house, information will be available on the latest proposed zoning, regulations for new development, and design review guidelines to shape future development. The proposed zoning changes are to ensure that new development is consistent with the city’s transit supportive policies and the community’s vision.
Zoning in the Interstate Corridor has not been revisited since the adoption of the Albina Community Plan in 1993. The project will help provide a catalyst for private, mixed-use development along the Interstate Corridor by reducing regulatory barriers and will provide consistency between the adopted policy and current zoning. It will also stimulate wealth creation by creating opportunities for local business expansion and new property ownership.
This is the third of four community meetings planned for the Interstate Zoning Project, which is sponsored by PDC and managed by the City of Portland’s Bureau of Planning.
