Partnership Retains Loaves & Fishes In Key Downtown Location
PDC and Loaves & Fishes are pleased to announce the grand opening of Loaves & Fishes’ new Elm Court Senior Center on Thursday, September 20. The new senior center is located at 1025 SW Main Street. The Elm Court Senior Center was previously located inside the YWCA, 111 SW 11th Avenue, but has been relocated to space inside the adjoining St. Francis Apartments.
PDC’s Housing Development Finance department provided a $200,000 grant that was leveraged with Loaves & Fishes capital contributions to assist in relocation and tenant improvement expenses for the new 6,000 square foot street level commercial space in the St. Francis Apartments.
The new Elm Court Senior Center will continue to expand the vital community service provided by Loaves & Fishes through the Meals-On-Wheels program. The immediate neighborhood has 931-units of low-income rental senior housing.
For Fiscal Year ending June 2007, Loaves & Fishes reported that 50,354 meals were served in the Elm Court dining room, with another 88,843 meals served to seniors in the immediate neighborhood. The new dining area will allow neighborhood seniors, including the many St. Francis senior residents, to enjoy their meals on-site.
Meals-On-Wheels is just one of the important social services that Loaves & Fishes provides. “This project is a role model for public/private partnerships through the leveraging of scarce public dollars with a significant capital contribution from Loaves & Fishes,” said PDC underwriter Neal Lydon.
