Public Invited To Open House For Interstate Light Rail Corridor Zoning Project
| WHAT: | The public is invited to attend an open house for the Interstate Light Rail Corridor Zoning Project. Information on current zoning, land use, project objectives, and past planning efforts will be available. The project will review zoning from the Overlook light rail station to Lombard Station, including portions of the Kenton Neighborhood. Changes to existing zoning will be proposed later this year. The study area is located within the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area (Interstate URA) which was established in 2000. The Interstate Zoning project will revisit the zoning pattern along the corridor and propose changes to ensure that new development is consistent with the City's transit supportive policies and the community’s vision. |
| WHEN: | Saturday, March 17, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. |
| WHERE: | Kaiser Permanente Town Hall 3704 N. Interstate Avenue, Portland |
| WHY: | The zoning in the Interstate Corridor has not been revisited since the opening of light rail in May 2004. The Interstate Zoning Project will provide a catalyst for private, mixed-use development in the Interstate Corridor by reducing regulatory barriers to redevelopment. It will encourage neighborhood services, local retail, housing, and job opportunities for the community. It will stimulate wealth creation by creating opportunities for local business expansion and property ownership. |
| WHO: | This is the first of three events planned for the Interstate Zoning Project, which is sponsored by the Portland Development Commission and the City of Portland Bureau of Planning. PDC’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for, and a participant in, a collective, public effort to focus attention and public resources in blighted or underused areas, stimulate private investment and improve livability. |
