Vanport Project on MLK Blvd. Slates Groundbreaking

Event Will Also Celebrate $7 Million in Street Improvements

WHAT: A celebration is planned to mark the groundbreaking for Phase I of the Vanport project on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.  The event will also celebrate street improvements to MLK Blvd.


WHEN:  Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Speakers at the event include:

  • Mayor Tom Potter
  • City Commissioner Sam Adams
  • Bruce Warner, PDC Executive Director
  • Carl Talton, Portland Family of Funds
  • Ray Leary, project developer

MORE: 

This celebration marks the start of construction on a 42,000 sq. ft. commercial condominium project that includes the renovation of the former Marco Manufacturing building and the construction of a new office/retail building. The project is expected to be a catalytic project along MLK Blvd. and will bring up to 75 new jobs to the community.

The event also celebrates the completion of a $7 million public investment in street improvements along Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

Survivors of the Vanport Flood will also be in attendance.
