Business Support
Portland Ambassadors
| Observations from the recent Portland Ambassadors mission to Chicago. This enlightening visit in September 2007 prompted much discussion on the need for a shared vision, public and private leadership, and a strong, consistent message about Portland's unique attributes. |

Ambassador Program
The Portland Ambassadors are leaders in the metropolitan Portland business community, with both the interest and ability to help shape our future economy.

Representing the private sector, Ambassadors team up with the Portland Development Commission (PDC), the Regional Economic Development Partners, and other economic development entities in the region to:
- take an active role in recruitment and retention of businesses to the region;
- expand the region’s capacity to recruit and retain business;
- increase awareness of the city and region as a welcoming and desirable place to do business;
- link local business to public resources.
The Ambassadors merge corporate support with public dollars to fund regional business development; the result is a strong private-public alliance working to achieve a sustainable and healthy economy—one rich with opportunities for jobs, investment and community wealth.
Benefits of Membership
Sustaining a strong regional economic development program is reason enough for a company to be involved in the Portland Ambassadors—but the benefits to both your company and community are considerably more.
The ability to communicate with public partners—to listen, and to be heard—is invaluable.
Benefits to the community
- Ambassadors become knowledgeable advocates for local economy/issues affecting the quality of life in the Portland region.
- Ambassadors participate in strategic marketing efforts serving community and business interests.
- Ambassadors provide essential funding for delivery of services that keep the region competitive in the sophisticated world of economic development and site selection.
- Ambassadors provide service to the community not already being addressed by any other organization.
Benefits to Ambassadors
- Direct participation in recruitment opportunities such as outbound trips, hosting visiting executives and site selectors, and developing strategies for targeted business recruitment;
- Opportunities to volunteer as a participant in business retention and expansion visits to local companies;
- Luncheon Business Forums on economic strategies and industries;
- Quarterly evening meetings that provide opportunities to network, meet new executives and emerging businesses in the community;
- Business development “best practices” trips;
- Recognition at highest public levels as a pro-active member of the business community.
Bottom line: membership in the Portland Ambassador Program is a good investment!
